Ed Hicks

Ed Hicks plays banjo, fiddle, guitar and mandolin and has over fifteen years experience performing and recording bluegrass and old time Appalachian music. Ed has played on platinum selling and mercury nominated albums, composed award winning music for the South Park series, toured the UK and Europe, played on The Voice, The Paul O’Grady show, The Crown, and performed “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” live with Eric Idle.

Ed is also a passionate teacher and enjoys helping people learn how to play old time and bluegrass music and how to make music with their friends. For the past ten years Ed has been the banjo tutor for the English Folk Dance and Song Society. He has also taught residential courses at Halsway Manor, The Stables Arts Centre and Campfire in the Mountain. Between 2012 and 2017 Ed was the director of the Trad Academy folk music school, London. Ed is currently offering one-to-one banjo lessons from his home in North London and remotely through Zoom.
